Manchester – The place to be

5 Nov 2015

Why is Manchester a great place to do business?
And not just for law firms.

BNY Mellon came to Manchester in 2005.
They came for similar reasons which are now attracting major law firms nothshoring from London.
Superb transport links,
A large, diverse and well qualified workforce.
Business friendly local government.

They now have over 1200 staff in Manchester and have just produced a very interesting guide to Manchester and its plans for the next 10 years, called Manchester 2025 – The Next Decade of Development.

The city is still developing its infrastructure and its ability to generate and attract the types of employees that are attractive to professional and financial services firms.
Amongst other things it has a world class business school, 3 universities and 2 law schools.

There are now 7 million people who live within 45 minutes travel of the city centre. Infrastructure investment will increase that to 15 million by 2025.

The Spinningfields area alone has 20,000 people working there for 190 organisations. 40% of them earn over £30,000 and 12% earn over £60,000.

It is predicted that over the next 10 years there will be a further 70,000 financial and professional services jobs created in Manchester.

All in all the city is a success story and it is easy to see why it is now the second largest legal and professional services centre after London.
