Hi Iwan, let’s start with work; what does a ‘normal’ day constitute for you?

There is no such thing as a normal day! However, typical activities will involve the production of extensive research documents for retained assignments; supporting the business development activities of consultants and headhunting. I also spend a great deal of time learning and leveraging new sourcing techniques.

How long have you been with the company? How did you get started?

I have been with the company for 5 years. I initially joined as junior researcher.

When you were a child, what job did you want to do?

When I was a child I didn’t want to grow up (some may argue I haven’t) so I never put any real thought into my desired vocation. If my legs were longer, I’d probably still be racing mountain bikes.

Work in silence or with music, background chatter and noise?

There are times for all but my preference is to work with music (preferably something with an 808 in it).

What’s been your greatest moment working here so far?

There have been a few, however it’s always great to see the merger projects come off.

Great, what’s your drink of choice while you’re working?

Coffee (frequently).

And when you’re not working?

AM – Bloody Mary (and a bloody good one)

PM – Heineken

& Later – Hendricks

Nice. Name the best place you’ve ever visited.

Novi Sad – Serbia was serious fun, but Kenya was beautiful.

And how about the place that’s currently top of your ‘to visit’ list?

Nepal is top of the list.

If you have the choice between staying in and going out, which do you normally choose and what do you normally do?

Going out, 100%. I eat out, go record shopping and frequent various club nights. I run a Northern Soul night so the last two are work related (ish).

What’s the one talent you have that people in your office are unaware of?

I can be modest at times.

What would your ‘Desert Island’ disc, film and book be?

Disc: Beastie Boys – Paul’s Boutique

Book: The Creation Records Story

Film: Searching for Sugar Man

Do you prepare well in advance or are you a ‘last minute’ person?

Well in advance.

Who’d play you in the film of your life?

I’d like to say someone along the lines of Ryan Gosling… but I’m pretty short so I guess the casting director would plump for Warwick Davis.

Car windows down or air conditioning on?

If I’m driving – windows down.

If I’m in the back – AC on, no one likes being buffeted by the wind.

DIY or call an expert?

That depends, Ikea flat-pack and I’m your man. Open heart surgery, I’ll have a bash under duress but I’d prefer to call in a pro.

If you had to compete at the Olympics, in any event, real or fake, what would you choose?

I’d love to compete in any cycling event.

Do you ‘do’ twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn? Are they useful?

I use all 3, they’re all useful in their own way. Twitter is my favorite, it’s my own personal newspaper.

Physical book or e-book? Do you still buy a paper? Which one?

Physical book for pleasure, e-book for work (simply so I can add and share notes). I rarely buy a paper but when I do it’ll be The Guardian.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being ‘not at all’, how clued up on technology do you feel you are?

Not bad, I’m currently teaching myself various software packages, for music production and graphics. I‘ll give myself an 8/10
